Bill – Bringing yogurt, coffee & hard boiled eggs for breakfast Sunday & Monday
Roland – Bringing lunch of Saturday and some munchies for snacks, responsible for Bloody Mary Contest!
Matt – Bringing one dinner to have on boat, the other will be in town. Also bringing lunch for Monday
All – bring your desired cold beverages. There is complimentary Narragansett Beer available on the dock.
All those staying on boat – bring sleeping bag, towel and quarters for showers at Payne’s Dock.
Bill brings fender board, long dock lines, shore power cable, cocktail table and boom tent. Since only 3 people I will not bring V-Berth cushions. The heater/AC will be on the boat.
Friday
- 6:00pm Skippers Meeting – Get official start times and sailing instructions
Saturday
- 9:00am Start – Newport. The first boat will start at 9:00am, and the rest will follow based on handicap.
- noon – sandwiches on boat
- 6:00pm Finish – New Harbor, Block Island – If you can’t finish by 6:00pm give up, turn on your engine and come in for beer.
- 6:30pm Dinner – One night on boat, another night in town.
Sunday
- Breakfast stuff available on boat
- 10:00am Bloody Mary Contest (virgin of course) – Back by popular demand. Bring your own concoction. What you do with the mixes after the judges taste them is up to you.
- 3:00pm Hors d’oeuvres – On the dock. Be ready to present your best hors d’oeuvres for judging in taste and presentation. Partaking requires participation!
- 4:00pm Awards – On the dock.
- 6:30pm Dinner – One night on boat, another night in town.
Monday
- Breakfast stuff available on boat
- Lunch – Sandwiches on boat
- Leave as you so desire or continue to enjoy the island. Be sure to check with your dock
mates in case any of them want to leave early.
Uniform: orange shirts blue vests Saturday, white shirts blue vests for party Sunday. Bring grey crew jackets

A great weekend on Block Island with Kathy, Claire & Bill. Great race results and appetizer contest results. We were fortunate to have the blender and the heater on the boat. After a nice weekend on Block Island we had a fast ride back with everyone taking time on the helm.
A few pictures from our family sail on Grandpa's birthday weekend. Unfortunately hurricane Ophelia changed our plans for a weekend on Block Island. We did a Friday evening sail in Newport, grabbed a mooring for cocktails and dinner, then went back to our slip at the Navy marina. We stayed on the boat Friday night and went to the YMCA for Isla's soccer which was moved to the indoor gym.

A great weekend of racing with everybody with Vento Solare finishing 2nd place overall. Crew work was fantastic all three days. Starting from the bow with Roland, mast with Will, pit with Andrew, trimming with Sarah & Mary, and main / tactics with Trevor (Jeff Roy for Around the Island on Friday). We saw the full spectrum of wind from 5 to 22 kts over 3 days.
Congrats to Divided Sky who put up all first place finishes. The rest of the class including J/109 URSA, J/99 Upbeat, Sunfast 3300 Avalon and Express 37 COUCOU all provided the challenge as fierce competitors.
A quick note about the finish recorded as 20:45:56 on the JYC website for the Tuesday race on 8 August. Roland noticed that the recorded time did not correspond to the finish order where we were behind Samba and in front of Grimace. I corresponded with the race committee and the finish time recorded on their scoring sheet is 20:24:56. The finish time will be updated on the JYC website and the results updated. I will send the results when the update is made.
