Vento Solare Sets Around Aquidneck Island Challenge Record
Vento Solare sailed the Twenty Hundred Club Around Aquidneck Island Challenge on Sunday 21 October and set a new record for non-spinnaker at 4 hours 37 minutes 35 seconds (corrected to 3 hours 47 minutes 27 seconds for PHRF 94). A Preview of Things to Come
I’ve been wrestling with failures on some of the original Nexus instruments this year. First the wind sensor and electronic compass, then one of the Multi-control displays on the sprayhood. Rather than continue to bandaid fixes on obsolete parts, I’ve decided it is time to make the jump and upgrade the instruments to a full B&G system. …

Vento Solare turning Green!
Vento Solare Crew,
I am following the lead from Brooke who sent a note to the URSA crew. She has transitioned to an environmentally friendly policy associated with beverages on the boat. This is a great idea and we will do the same on Vento Solare.

Those needing a ride on base please meet 7:45 am at the Pass & ID parking lot to be driven on base. If you arrive a few minutes early call Bill so I can meet you to on the causeway to drive on base
Staying at Payne's Dock.
- Sarah & Sue- responsible for Appetizer Contest!
- Bill- responsible for Brocktail Contest & Snacks for boat
- Bill will have beverages and stuff for breakfast (yogurt, granola, hard boiled eggs, coffee).
- Lisa - bring lunch for Saturday.
- Bill brings fender board, long dock lines, shore power cable, cocktail table and dodger.
Friday
- 6:00pm Skippers Meeting - Get official start times and sailing instructions
Saturday
- 9:00am Start - Newport. The first boat will start at 9:00am, and the rest will follow based on handicap.
- noon - sandwiches on boat
- 6:00pm Finish – New Harbor, Block Island - If you can't finish by 6:00pm give up, turn on your engine and come in for beer.
- 6:30pm Dinner - We will eat in town.
Sunday
- Breakfast stuff available on boat
- 10:00am Brocktail Contest - Brunch cocktails, broadened beyond the Bloody Mary. Bring your own concoction.
- 12:00pm Hors d'oeuvres and Costume Contest - On the dock. Be ready to present your best hors d'oeuvres for judging in taste and presentation. Partaking requires participation! Wear your best costume for a contest with a kid-friendly prize
- 1:00pm Awards - On the dock.
- Depart for Navy Marina immediately after awards

Twenty Hundred Club 80th Anniversary Race to Mystic
Buster meet Sue @ 0745 by Pass & ID lot to ride in with them. Bill will meet you on the causeway so you may drive on base.
Those staying on the boat bring towel and blanket or sleeping bag. We'll be on the dock with the dodger, shore power and the heater. There are shower facilities and bathrooms on the dock. Accommodations for the weekend:
- Sue - V-Berth
- Roland - main cabin
- Bill & Cindy - aft cabin
- Sarah & Buster - not staying overnight on boat
More info about the weekend:
- I'll have Friday lunch available for all on the boat. Plan on the rest of the meals while on the dock in town. I'll have sandwiches for the trip back Monday. There will be some libations available on the boat.

- Saturday
- 2:00pm Guided Tour - meet at the Masin & Clary deck
- 4:00pm Cocktails on the on the Masin & Clary deck
- 5:00pm Mystic Summer BBQ on the Masin & Clary deck- think elevated BBQ (salads, sirloin burgers, all beef hot dogs, ribs, and BBQ sides, and dessert) and access to a cash bar.
