Plan B – Sailing Starts for 2020
When “Plan A” fell apart with the Navy Marina restricting boat access until 1 June, we had to find another way to go sailing. A little sleuthing in Newport found that there were slips available for the month of May in downtown Newport.

Vento Solare Launched but 2020 Season on Hold
The 2020 season was shaping up nicely with boat preps, but the whole Covid 19 situation has really messed up the sailing schedule. The 2020 Season schedule has been updated and is covered at the bottom of this post.

Spring 2020 Boat Preps with Health Precautions
Vento Solare 2020 preparations are progressing well through the coronavirus pandemic. Bill was safe with a Tyvec suit and full face respirator sanding and painting the bottom. On Friday 20 March, the work team of Erin & Gardner Howe with Mike & Cheryl Marrone practiced safe distancing as everyone maintained 10 foot separation to wax the hull. …

11:00 First Warning Signal: Expect anywhere up to 3 windward - leeward races per day based on conditions. There is no warning signal after 2pm Sunday
After racing: We'll return to the dock and go to the awards.

1700 Tent Opens for NBYC Annual Regatta Party: There will also be a regatta party Saturday night for all participants with live music and an assortment of food stations! Tickets will be available for purchase when you get off the water on Saturday.

The 2026 J/109 North American Championship will be held at New Bedford Yacht Club
Fri 7 August: Plan on being ready to head to the boat at 0900 - Uniform for Friday is Vento Solare Blue Tech Shirts
We need to figure out a lunch plan - there are sandwich shops near the club.
8:00 Light Breakfast at NBYC: For those who desire NBYC has a light breakfast available at the club.
9:00 Boat Call: Be ready to board launch to boat. We'll rig and head out to the starting area.
11:00 First Warning Signal: This is it! racing starts. Expect anywhere up to 3 windward - leeward races per day based on conditions.
After racing: We'll return to the dock and get cleaned up for the J/109 Class party that starts at 6:30pm. The uniform is Blue Vento Solare polo shirts. I have party/dinner tickets for all. J/109 Dinner Menu Smoked fish dip, Caesar Salad, Hanger steak, Marinated chicken breast, Swordfish skewers, Mango Salsa, chimichurri, Corn on the cob with chili lime butter, Assorted Deserts
