– J/109 Vento Solare 2024 Schedule is Ready for Your Inputs! – |
Hello %firstname% %lastname%,
This email corrected some links, no other changes for the earlier version sent.
The Summary: for those who don’t read details!
- J/109 Vento Solare is in good shape for 2024!
- Set availability for 2024 Events at this link by 30 January (Log in and click the Crew Member View button on the calendar to enable setting availability)
- Update Personal Profile with weight for OD events, World Sailing ID & Classification, and clothing size on the J/109 Vento Solare website – mouse over Crew and click on Edit my Profile. I plan on buying crew gear this winter for those who participate in events.
The Details:
J/109 Vento Solare is resting well on the hard at Borden Light Marina for the winter. The bottom was painted and hull waxed in the fall before the cover went on. There are a few minor projects remaining to be done, but nothing schedule critical. A wet sanding party will be scheduled in the spring after the cover is removed so we can splash and start sailing again. I hope to launch in early April, weather permitting.
This message is being sent to a select group with the 2024 schedule before it is blasted to a wider group. I would like you to please look at the J/109 Vento Solare 2024 schedule and set your availability for events. Please indicate yes, no or maybe so I don’t need to follow up after the fact. This is easiest done logging in to the J/109 Vento Solare site, from the Crew menu select Availability.
Tip for 2024: The links in this email are filtered by groups shown below. This pre-filters the list making it easier to view and set availability for events in the various groups all at once. You may also use the category & tag dropdowns to filter the schedule as desired.
Use the links to open the pages. Each event has a text field next to the Availability dropdown where you may submit a comment for that event. Please set your availability (yes, no or maybe) by Tuesday 30 January. Once inputs are received, I’ll determine which events are definite, make crew assignments and blast an email to a wider audience to fill gaps. I may adjust the schedule if there is insufficient crew for certain events.
I’m assuming a full schedule with the pandemic behind us, but time will tell since Cindy tested COVID positive last week so we are isolating. Many of the events are the same as past years. I am racing to Bermuda on J/122 Alliance and will be gone from 21 through 30 June so there is no racing on Vento Solare then. There are a few other potential date conflicts but I’ll update these as we get closer.

A fun evening sharing a table with Eric, Mary, Chris, Maggie, Francis, Lisa, Bill & Cindy. Mary was recognized with a US Sailing award as a JYC member for her communications role on J/122 Alliance in the Bermuda Race. Maggie accepted the J/122 Leading Edge third place fall series award for Tom and Diana. The picture below shows Bill & Cindy with the 1st place spring series award for J/109 Vento Solare.
In the end it turned out that the Ida Lewis YC awarded the youth trophy to Vento Solare. Pictures from the award ceremony and the trophies are below.

Thank you for a great time. That hour penelty seems steep. If you look at yellow brick there were a few other boats in our class that were just inside that south east dot. Not sure how picky they were being.
Either way great work by everyone. Enjoy the party.
Bill went to the protest hearing about our sailing in the exclusion zone to fix the spinnaker. The results of the protest was the RC added 1 hour to our corrected time. This put us in 2nd place for the youth entries. We would have had 1st in youth if not for this. Hope to see you all at the awards ceremony!
